When it comes to the creation of A Little Monologue, I wanted to make a film that followed a similar plot structure to that of a “rom-com”, but instead of a happy ending, the one the audience is presented with is more realistic.

Inspired by The Lovers by Akseli Gallen-Kallela – I aimed to create a “rom-com” that defied expectations and stereotypes. I love stories that end happily, but they often blur together, the stories that stick with you long after viewing are the ones that make you feel something deeper than sadness – betrayal.

Lucca though being clearly aware how wrong his actions were, continued to pursue them out of a desperation for love. Wyatt just happened to be the person that fell into the circumstance, but just like a “rom-com” is it fate or just coincidence. Would it turn out the same if another person entered through the door?

Ideation:

Akseli Gallen-Kallela (b. 1865), The Lovers (1906-1917)
